John Deere zero-turn mower with Michelin X Tweel Turf Airless Radial Tires driving over rocks

What are Tweels?

Formally known as Michelin X Tweel Turf Airless Radial Tires, Tweels are designed to eliminate flats and reduce downtime. Unlike pneumatic tires, Tweels require no air and can conform to all types of terrain, making for a much smoother ride. They also have a wear life up to 3x longer than pneumatic tires. Tweels are made exclusively to fit John Deere Z700 series and Z900 series ZTrak zero-turns and QuikTrak stand-on mowers.

Tweel design

The outer section of the Tweel is a strong, flexible beam called a shear beam. The beam connects to the inner hub through high-strength, poly-resin spokes that help to carry the load, absorb impacts, and reduce bounce. The hub is made up of heavy gauge steel with a 4 bolt hub pattern. The multi-directional tread pattern provides grip and stability on hillsides while preventing turf damage.

The Tweel’s design provides a consistent mowing height and enhanced operator comfort, even when driving over bumps and curbs. The high-performance compounds that make up the Tweel provide a long wear life that is 2-3x longer than a pneumatic tire.
